How To Hang Pictures On Plaster Walls Without Chipping Plaster

Heating a nail sounds like to much effort. Besides, how warm would it have to be? I would prefer to pre-drill a small hole. I also think that driving the nail in is not so much the plaster problem, as pulling one out.
